How do I find or change my Wi-Fi name or password?

< Back

You can always find your WiFi name (SSID) and WiFi Password on the back or at the bottom of any of our modems.

Changing your WiFi password to make it easier to remember makes sharing WiFi with friends and family easy, but just remember that if it is easy to remember, then it is probably also easy to guess. Having a complex password is an important safety step that keeps your information private and secure.

Not sure how to pick a strong password? Check out our Password Hygiene short course — it’s free for WN customers.

If you have a TP-Link Deco 4G Modem then the below information does not apply to you.

If you wish to change your WiFi password, please follow the guide below and don’t forget to pick a strong password.

If you use a Wireless Modem (for NZMCA/Lifestyle/Rural/Coastguard/Home WIreless) just follow these simple steps to change the Wi-Fi (wifi) password on your modem. If you use any other modem please give us a call on 0800 101 143.

Firstly, check what modem you have:

If you have a B315 / B525 modem

  1. Make sure your laptop or PC is connected to your modem first.
  2. Open your internet browser, in the address bar type the IP address that is shown at the top of this guide.
  3. In the login box that pops up, type ‘admin’ for both the username and the password. Then press Enter.
  4. You should now be logged in. On the menu bar, click ‘Settings’.
  5. Select ‘WLAN’ and then ‘WLAN Basic Settings”. Here you can change your Wi-Fi Name (SSID), your security mode (we don’t recommend touching this), and your Wi-Fi password (called the WPA pre-shared key).
  6. Once you’ve made your changes, check that ‘SSID Broadcast’ is enabled and then click ‘Save’.

If you have a B818 modem

  1. Make sure your laptop or PC is connected to your modem first.
  2. Open your internet browser, in the address bar type the IP address that is shown at the top of this guide.
  3. On the login page, you will be required to enter the login password for your modem. This can be found at the bottom of the modem as “Password
  4. After logging into the modem please click on “Wi-Fi settings” Option
  5. You can change the Wi-Fi name and password on this page and after modifying the credentials please click on “Save
