When connecting your smartphone, laptop, or Smart TV to your home internet, your modem transmits wireless signals across two distinct pathways called frequency bands: 2.4GHz and 5GHz.
Do you see one network name or two?
- One Network Name (Smart WiFi): Most modern modems combine both bands into a single WiFi name. Your modem automatically switches your device to the best band as you move around the house.
- Two Network Names: Older modems may split the bands into two names (for example: MyHomeWiFi and MyHomeWiFi_5G). If your modem does this, you will need to manually choose which one to connect to.

Because the high-speed 5GHz band struggles with obstacles, place your modem in a central, elevated location (like on a shelf or tabletop). Avoid hiding it inside cupboards, behind the TV, or next to large metal objects.
2. Assign your devices correctly
If your modem lists two separate WiFi names, make sure your data-heavy devices (Smart TVs, gaming consoles, laptops) are connected to the 5GHz network name for the smoothest experience.
