The average peak hour 4G speed is 44Mbps download, and 17Mbps upload. Actual speeds may be faster or slower, depending on your distance to the nearest tower, your location, and how many people are using that same tower simultaneously. Full Speed Data means as fast as the cell tower will allow at that time. Speeds are from the Commerce Commission’s Measuring Broadband New Zealand (MBNZ) October 2025 report.

What equipment do I need and what's the setup cost?
There’s an investment of $329 for a powerful 4G Modem. This provides home-grade internet on the road and reaches further than mobile phone reception.
You can upgrade to a 5G-enabled modem for $499 if you need faster speeds in urban areas. Not sure if you need a 5G modem? Check our comparison here.
You’ll need to be in 4G/5G coverage for Portable WiFi to work, 5G speeds only available in 5G coverage with a 5G capable modem, otherwise coverage will default to 4G where available.
12-24V DC Surge Protection Adaptor (optional)
You can add our 12–24V DC Surge Protection Adaptor for $99.99 during signup. It’s specifically designed in NZ for use with our modems and motorhome power systems, allowing the modem to run safely off 12–24V while protecting it from voltage spikes. Please note: the modem includes a 230/240V wall plug for mains power.

The plans come with an open term meaning we’ll just need 5 working days’ notice when you wish to put it on hold (after one-month minimum activation).

What's the coverage in New Zealand?
You’ll need to be in 4G/5G coverage for Portable WiFi to work. 5G speeds only available in 5G coverage with a 5G capable modem, otherwise coverage will default to 4G where available.
There are 1,750+ cell towers located around the country to connect to and you can check coverage by going to: wirelessnation.co.nz/coverage, and following the prompts.
What speeds would I get?

Both plans are suitable for dual HD streaming simultaneously and support WiFi sharing with many devices for Googling, Emails, Facebook, Spotify, YouTube etc.
300GB plan: 300GB full-speed data then speeds will reduce to a maximum of 1.2 Mbps once 300GB has been reached.

How much power does the modem use?
The 4G modem (Deco) uses 12 Watts when busy and 7.2 Watts when idle.
The 5G modem (H153) uses 12 Watts when busy and 8.4 Watts when idle.
Both essentially the same as an LED light bulb.
Can I add a home phone line?

Factors such as the performance of your modem, the distance you are from a cell tower, the network capability, the overall use of that cell tower by other customers, the performance and age of the devices you are using, and your in-home WiFi setup, can impact the speeds experienced.
This is a best efforts residential service and is not to be used for re-sale.
It can take up to 3 hours for your data to renew from midnight on the 1st of every month — this is due to the large number of connections that need to get processed through the system.
