Add an extra layer of protection to your Wireless Nation internet
Scam Guard helps block access to known scam, phishing, and malware websites before they can load on devices connected to your internet connection — only $9.99 per month.
How Scam Guard Helps
Security works best when you do not have to think about it. Once Scam Guard is turned on, it helps protect your home internet connection via your modem — so it can help cover multiple devices at once.
That includes (but not limited to) things like:
- laptops
- phones
- tablets
- smart TVs
- security cameras
If one of those devices tries to open a known harmful link or website, Scam Guard helps stop that connection before the site can load.
It helps block access to:
- Known phishing websites used to steal passwords, banking details, or card information
- Known malware websites linked to harmful software
- Known scam and ransomware-related links that have already been reported as unsafe
Because it works at the network level, it can also help protect devices that don’t usually have antivirus installed — like smart TVs and connected home devices.
Protection without reading your private content
Scam Guard is designed to help block access to known harmful websites — not to inspect the personal content of what you do online.
It works using trusted threat information to help identify known scam and malware risks before they can load.
Backed by trusted cyber threat information
Scam Guard uses regularly updated New Zealand and global threat intelligence to help stay current with known online risks. This includes the National Cyber Security Centre’s (NCSC) award-winning Malware Free Networks (MFN).
According to the NCSC Cyber Threat Report 2024, the Malware Free Networks capability disrupted over 10.3 million malicious cyber events targeting New Zealand organisations in 2023/2024.

Important: Scam Guard is designed to be an extra layer of defence, not a complete guarantee. It helps block known and reported threats, but it may not catch everything. That means it may not block brand new scam websites that haven’t been identified yet, scams sent by text, email, social media, or phone call, threats hidden by services like some VPNs or encrypted privacy tools or harmful sites accessed when you’re not using your home internet connection. Scam Guard works best alongside updated antivirus software, sufficient device updates and safe browsing habits.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Scam Guard work if I use a VPN?
No. A VPN can hide where your internet traffic is going, which means Scam Guard may not be able to filter it for known scam or harmful websites. If you regularly use a VPN, Scam Guard may not work as expected while it’s turned on.
What about Apple Private Relay or encrypted browsing settings?
Some privacy tools and browser settings, such as Apple’s Private Relay and “DNS over HTTPS” (DoH), can route your internet traffic in a way that bypasses Scam Guard. That means Scam Guard may not be able to block some known harmful websites on devices using those settings.
Is protection 100% guaranteed?
No. Scam Guard is designed to help block known and reported scam, phishing, and malware websites, but no online protection tool can stop everything.
It works best as an extra layer of protection alongside antivirus software, device updates and safe browsing habits. Scam Guard also relies on regularly updated threat information, so very new or unreported threats may not be blocked straight away.
