*Fibre speed estimates are based on national peak-time averages (MBNZ Oct 2025) using a direct Ethernet connection from your modem to your device. Actual speeds may vary depending on your location, device age, and in-home WiFi setup. Fibre is not available at all NZ addresses. For Portable WiFi, average peak-hour 4G speeds are 44Mbps download and 17Mbps upload (MBNZ Oct 2025). These can also vary depending on your distance to the nearest tower, your location, and how many people are using that tower at the same time.

Already have a Wireless Nation Portable WiFi modem?

If you already own a Wireless Nation Portable WiFi modem, great! Call us to join the Home & Away Bundle. The Home Fibre modem is included at no extra cost. You’ll only pay $16.95 for shipping and handling, and the $299 setup fee will be waived.

Is there a contract?

The NZMCA Home & Away Bundle requires a 12-month contract, ensuring that both your Home Fibre Saver and Portable WiFi services remain active all year round, simultaneously.

The early exit fee is 1/12 of $149 for every remaining month on a 12-month contract, plus the value of any promotion offered during signup. E.g. If you cancel with 5 months remaining on your contract, the early exit fee will be $62.08 (this is 5/12 of $149.)

What if I need more portable data or faster fibre?

The Home & Away Bundle offers flexibility. We’re here to help you adjust it to your needs — just call us.

  • Unlimited Portable WiFi is available for an additional $30/month, as needed.
  • Upgrade to NZMCA Home Fibre Boost for an extra $20/month.

Upgrades and downgrades require 5 days notice, and are effective from the first day of the next month for a minimum of 1 month.

The Home & Away Bundle is best suited for the Weekend Wanderer: You’re based at home but love hitting the road for weekend trips and holiday adventures, or you leave for extended periods but leave your home in the care of house-sitters, family or flatmates.

What do I need to know about rollover data?

You get 20GB of Portable WiFi data each month, and any unused data will roll over for up to three (3) months. Once you’ve used your combined monthly data, your connection will stop.

We’ll always use your oldest data first, so nothing goes to waste. Just a heads up: if you change your plan, your rollover balance will reset to zero. That’s because the unlimited Portable WiFi plan doesn’t need rollover data.

Do I need to install Fibre?

If you’re address is able to get Fibre, you can enjoy free standard installation, with two options for your needs:

Option 1: You already have Fibre installed

No worries! We’ll ship the modem to you within five working days, and all you need to do is connect the modem to your fibre ONT (white box) located inside your home.

Option 2: Install a brand-new Fibre connection

If you don’t have fibre installed and are in an eligible fibre area, we’ll take care of that too. We’ll organise the install of a fibre box (also called ONT for optical network terminator) and help facilitate the process between you and the technician. If you need to get online quickly while waiting for the installation to be completed, we can provide a temporary wireless broadband connection.

The installation cost is usually covered by the Local Fibre Company (LFC). In some cases the installation of Fibre is deemed “non-standard” due to complexity and may incur additional costs which will be quoted prior for your approval. Should you not proceed, your Home & Away Bundle will be cancelled and any payments made will be refunded (excluding courier costs) upon us receiving the modems back in as-new condition. Our customer service team can work with you to find an alternative type of connection.

Can I run the Portable WiFi modem off 12-24V?

Yes, the Portable WiFi modem can run off 12-24V.  It comes with a 230/240V to 12-24V wall plug for mains power. If you want to run the modem off your battery/cigarette lighter plug, you can add our 12–24V DC Surge Protection Adaptor for $99.99 during signup. It’s specifically designed in NZ for use with our modems and motorhome power systems, allowing the modem to run safely off 12–24V while protecting it from voltage spikes.

Is this available at my address?

NZMCA Portable WiFi: We use over 1,750 towers which cover 99% of the population or, in other words, most places where people live, work and commonly travel. You can check coverage here.

Wireless Nation is a really effective and cost efficient way of getting enough data while travelling the country. Unfortunately, an unexpected situation was my own fault this time round. I thought downgrading my mobile plan would help, but no, it has cost me over $80 a month, so I have been paying the company more than the prepaid plan. Attention to the public: please don't use Wireless Nation if you simply can't afford it. I got myself in a mess and this Christmas I will be dead because all of the benefit money will pay for the phone bill and only water to drink
