Do I need an external aerial for Portable WiFi?

We don’t recommend one. Our Portable WiFi modems are built with high-performance internal antennas that provide strong coverage across New Zealand — even in many remote travel spots. We use over 1,750 towers which cover 99% of the population or, in other words, most places where people live, work and commonly travel.

Tips for the best signal: Place your modem in a central location, close to your devices. Avoid hiding it behind brick walls, metal cupboards, or drawers, and try positioning it near a window.

Still thinking about an external aerial? If you choose to install one, it must be done through a third party. Please note: we can’t guarantee signal quality or reliability when external equipment is used.

What about Rural Wireless?

If you are on the fringe of coverage, it’s best to try the modem by itself first. You can purchase a directional antenna kit from us at a later date if you need it. If you wish to pruchase an antenna kit for your rural address, please call our team on 09 280 3672.
