How to Stream On-demand, Netflix and Sports in your Motorhome or Caravan

Many of our customers have been asking about streaming and on-demand services in your motorhomes, so we rolled up our sleeves and made a super helpful 10-minute video.

Love life on the road but don’t want to miss your favourite shows or the big game?

Good news — it’s easier than ever to watch live sport and on-demand TV while travelling around New Zealand. Here’s how to do it, the simple way.

What You’ll Need

1. A Reliable Internet Connection

Wireless Nation’s Portable WiFi modem is ideal for motorhomers and caravanners. It connects to the 4G or 5G network and gives you internet via 1,750 towers which cover 99% of the population or, in other words, most places where people live, work and commonly travel.

Just plug it in, turn it on, and you’re online. No need to mess around with dodgy campground WiFi.

2. A Smart TV or Streaming Device

Some motorhomes have a Smart TV these days. If yours doesn’t, you can plug in a small device like a Chromecast, or Sky Pod to your TV’s HDMI port. These let you stream content over WiFi from the apps you use at home. You can get these devices, for example, from retailers like Noel Leeming.

3. The Right Apps

Make sure you’ve got these apps installed on your TV or device:

  • TVNZ+ — great for free entertainment and some live events
  • ThreeNow — another free option with popular shows and news
  • Sky Sport Now — for live sports, replays and highlights (subscription needed)
  • Netflix — for movies, documentaries, and binge-worthy series (subscription needed)

What is the Sky Pod?

The Sky Pod is a small device you can take with you. Plug it into your TV, connect to Portable WiFi, and stream all your Sky Sport channels just like you do at home. It also supports Netflix and YouTube.

“Having Wireless Nation Portable WiFi in my motorhome means I don’t miss out on any of my favourite sports while travelling. I simply take my Sky Pod with me, plug it into my HDMI socket on the TV and it gives me access to all my Sky Channels on the go.”

Simple Streaming Tips

  • Place your modem near a window for best signal.
  • Use Ethernet (a short cable) if you can, for a more stable connection.
  • Lower the video quality to reduce buffering and save data (720p or SD is often good enough).
  • Download ahead if you’re going off-grid (Netflix, TVNZ+ and ThreeNow let you download to a phone or tablet).

With Wireless Nation’s Portable WiFi and a simple setup, you can watch Netflix, TVNZ+, ThreeNow, and Sky Sport from your motorhome without missing a beat.

It’s perfect for keeping up with the rugby, watching the evening news, or streaming your favourite show while parked up somewhere beautiful.
