Wireless Nation is a really effective and cost efficient way of getting enough data while travelling the country. I have had the modem in my caravan whilst travelling the South Island with no weak signals or outage. I wish I had this installed when we traveled the North Island and ran out of 18 GB rollover data from another supplier, ending up in a huge bill for top ups.

We have used Wireless Nation for a few years now, firstly on our yacht while coastal cruising and now in our caravan. I don't recall any place where we haven't been able to pick up wifi during our travels. It operates on 12v and 240v

Unfortunately, an unexpected situation was my own fault this time round. I thought downgrading my mobile plan would help, but no, it has cost me over $80 a month, so I have been paying the company more than the prepaid plan. Attention to the public: please don't use Wireless Nation if you simply can't afford it. I got myself in a mess and this Christmas I will be dead because all of the benefit money will pay for the phone bill and only water to drink

Just returned from living in Oz and having a nightmare experience trying to get connected with One NZ….omg…appalling, even advising my wife and I we failed a credit check, (first time in my entire life), but couldn’t explain why! We finally gave up and phoned our old internet provider Wireless Nation and BOOM 💥 same day connection! Plus outstanding local technical service to get the wifi router configured over the phone, and we were off and running at 300MBytes/second. JUST LIKE THAT! Wow, completely blew us away. There’s an investment of $329 for a powerful 4G Modem. This provides home-grade internet on the road and reaches further than mobile phone reception.

You can upgrade to a 5G-enabled modem for $499 if you need faster speeds in urban areas. Not sure if you need a 5G modem? Check our comparison here.

You’ll need to be in 4G/5G coverage for Portable WiFi to work, 5G speeds only available in 5G coverage with a 5G capable modem, otherwise coverage will default to 4G where available.

12-24V DC Surge Protection Adaptor (optional)

You can add our 12–24V DC Surge Protection Adaptor for $99.99 during signup. It’s specifically designed in NZ for use with our modems and motorhome power systems, allowing the modem to run safely off 12–24V while protecting it from voltage spikes. Please note: the modem includes a 230/240V wall plug for mains power.

The average peak hour 4G speed is 44Mbps download, and 17Mbps upload. Actual speeds may be faster or slower, depending on your distance to the nearest tower, your location, and how many people are using that same tower simultaneously. Full Speed Data means as fast as the cell tower will allow at that time. Speeds are from the Commerce Commission’s Measuring Broadband New Zealand (MBNZ) October 2025 report.

Product Terms and Setup

Modem and Setup

There’s an investment of $329 for a powerful 4G-enabled Modem, or $499 for the latest powerful 5G Modem (suitable for those located in an area with 5G coverage, or those who anticipate they may want 5G in the future).

This comes with an open term meaning we’ll just need 5 working days’ notice when you wish to put it on hold (after one-month minimum activation).

Shipping and handling: $16.95.

Can I use it anywhere in NZ?

You’ll need to be in 4G/5G coverage for Portable WiFi to work. 5G speeds only available in 5G coverage with a 5G capable modem, otherwise coverage will default to 4G where available.

There are 1,750+ cell towers located around the country to connect to and you can check coverage by going to: wirelessnation.co.nz/coverage, and following the prompts.

Speeds

Both plans are suitable for dual HD streaming simultaneously and support WiFi sharing with multiple devices for Googling, Emails, Facebook, Spotify, YouTube etc.

300GB plan: 300GB full-speed data then speeds will reduce to a maximum of 1.2 Mbps once 300GB has been reached.

How much power does the modem use?

The 4G modem (Deco) uses 12 Watts when busy and 7.2 Watts when idle. The 5G modem (H153) uses 12 Watts when busy and 8.4 Watts when idle, both essentially the same as an LED light bulb.

Can I add a home phone line?
Yes, you can add a home phone line during online signup. You can find the pricing and features here.
