Satellite data is precious so we've compiled a list of what we think are the top 10 tips for you to get the most out of your satellite broadband.

Use these tools and ideas so you can do more exciting things on the internet such as stream TV.. and watch funny cat videos on YouTube!

Alright, here they are!

  1. Download updates or large attachments at night. By setting automatic downloading of updates during the night you can make use of the free off peak data provided to you midnight-7am. Same goes for large email attachments, if possible wait till midnight or early in the morning to open these.

50GB off-peak data is available on most our rural plans

  2. Stream YouTube at the lowest quality. You can do this by clicking the 'settings' icon at the bottom right hand corner of the video, and selecting the lowest quality.

NB: the lower the number, the lower the quality. This means it will use less data to stream a video.

  3. View graphic intensive emails in text mode. You can set to open emails in text mode to avoid downloading graphics within the email. Tips on how to do this for the main email clients can be found here >

  4. Turn off all apps connected to the Wi-Fi such as Facebook mobile. Having notifications, Facebook or other Social Media apps open in your mobile can use a lot of data from your Wi-Fi. Please keep an eye out in case you're using your mobile to look at Facebook, or if you receive automatic notifications.

  5. Sync cloud applications at night. If you're uploading and saving any photos or work to cloud applications such as Dropbox, set to do it overnight and take advantage of the free off peak data provided to you midnight-7am.

  6. Monitor your data consumption. Our online customer portal myoasis provides you with the ability to check your data usage at any point in time.

  7. Make sure your Wi-Fi network is secure. Notice your data being used up quicker than normal? it could be passing neighbours trying to steal your internet connection. It's important you have a strong Wi-Fi password that others cannot figure out and log into your Wi-Fi.

  8. Set rules when and how to use the internet. Kids can be using up the internet through gaming or Facebook so set certain times they can access the internet.
  9. Visiting our partner websites do not count towards your usage. Accessing any of our partner websites, blogs, or apps will not count towards your data cap. Our partner and zero-rate agreements include ASB Bank, PGG Wrightson, FMG, MYOB and Farmstrong.

  10. Subscribe to streaming services with offline options. YouTube Red, Apple Music, Google Music, and Spotify allow you to create playlists for listening to offline.

We hope we've managed to give you some tips on how to make the most out of your satellite broadband data cap.
